A cappella makes layered music out of human voices, but what the quintet produced was a straight facsimile: they imitated jazz instruments to perfection. Not a single note was off-key and their harmony was immaculate. They didn't only sing, either: the band displayed their tap-dancing skills along with their vocal swing, and they kept us laughing. It was a ball. - Elza Irdalynna for kakiseni in 2006

Artist Residency at Worpswede
Deadline: 29 Sep 07
Call for Applications for the 2008 Residency
The Kuenstlerhaeuser Worpswede are one of the largest residencies in the Federal Republic of Germany. Among former grant holders are many well-known international artists. Besides the regular presentation of works produced in the studios both within and outside Worpswede, there are also, on a discursive level, artists' discussions, workshops and symposia on artists' support, which take place at the Barkenhoff. The grant body is also supported by the state of Lower Saxony through the award of a monthly grant of ??? [e-mail illegible] Euros. A restriction concerning age or nationality does not exist. Selection is made by a specialised jury in the fine arts and sound art respectively. Applications for the 2008 residencies in the fields of fine arts and sound art for a duration of up to 6 months are requested as of now. Artists' residential scholarship at the Kuenstlerstaette Schloss Bleckede
Application deadline: 29 Sep 07
Since 1979 the Kuenstlerstaette Schloss (= Castle) Bleckede has been seeking to promote young artists who explore innovative positions in the field of contemporary art. Today, artists, whose work addresses complex aesthetic, cultural or political issues, rarely find the necessary support to realize their ambitious projects. This is why the Schloss Bleckede wishes to offer such artists the opportunity to develop their work in the course of a residential scholarship of three or six months...
